Why You Should Forget Everything You Learned About Acne

Acne sufferers have most probably studied, heard and read of many miraculous cures, which supposedly can treat your acne overnight. It's a medical fact that acne cannot be cured overnight. It may take months or even a year to see visible results.

Before you decide which acne treatment to try, you need to first consider the reasons you are suffering from acne. Individuals suffer from acne for a number of reasons and each case differs on a case-to-case basis. Perhaps you are a stereotypical teenage victim of acne with a few pimples that you wish you never had. Or maybe you are in your late twenties or early thirties, and you are asking yourself “haven’t I passed the age to be suffering from acne”.

Acne occurs for a variety of reasons:

  • genetics
  • hormones
  • diet
  • lifestyle
  • stress

In order to treat your acne, you need to place yourself in one or more of these categories by asking yourself “why do I have acne”.  Once you have done this, the next step is to ask yourself – what kind of acne am I getting?

Acne comes in a variety of forms – some individuals may suffer from whiteheads, pustules, nodules, lesions or pimples all over the face, neck and sometimes back. These are red spots that are relatively small in size and if picked, will cause some scarring – especially on the face and neck. This type of acne is characteristic of teenagers who suffer from hereditary or hormonal acne. While going in the sun, drinking lots of water, keeping your face clean, avoiding stress and applying topical acne treatment ointments or creams may help a little  – this type of acne can only be properly cured by strong medicines that are ingested such as Roaccutane. Victims of hormonal and hereditary acne can suffer from acne for about three to four years of their lives and this can cause a large amount of scarring if it is not treated early on. Roaccutane, although is a relatively strong acne treatment, has a 70% success rate. Despite having dry, cracked, bleeding lips and having to take a blood test every three months, Roaccutane is one of the few acne treatments for real sufferers of acne that really is effective. Keep in mind however that you cannot take Roaccutane if you are pregnant, or plan on becoming pregnant while the drug is in your system. This acne treatment is also quite expensive and you will need to keep out of the sunlight and apply sun cream during the day. Your skin will be particularly sensitive and it is vital that you DO NOT pick any of your spots while on Roaccutane.

How does Roaccutane work

Roaccutane shrinks the glands in your body that produce oil and so you will experience extremely dry skin. This can actually be a pleasant alternative to individuals who have to constantly wash their oily face or for girls who need to reapply foundation and powder their noses every 1 hour. You will need to use lip balm regularly to avoid chapped, bleeding lips and you need to drink plenty of fluids and water. Stay hydrated, stay out of the sun, don’t get pregnant and set the right budget and you can be acne free in six to nine months. This may seem like a while to have to wait, but you will see the effects of Roaccutane immediately.
